Leadership Development Series
The Leadership Development Series is designed to develop the leadership skills of staff. Furthermore, it is designed for staff currently in leadership positions and staff aspiring to a leadership role in the future. This leadership development series introduces participants to the leadership attributes determined to be the core skill set for excellence in leadership. Participants will learn new leadership behaviors focused on the attributes of: communication, relationship building, coaching, role of the professional, shared ownership, accountability, and execution.
Learning objectives:
• Understand the role and characteristics of leadership in each of the leadership attributes
• Understand the behaviors that model each leadership attribute and apply these new behaviors in their work setting
• Be able to explain the linkage between the leadership attributes
• Understand their unique "behavioral style" and how that style impacts their performance
Session Schedules:
Session #1: Understanding Behavioral Styles and Relationship Building
September 21, 2010, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
As a leader understanding your behavioral style is important in gaining an appreciation for the different motivational environments in which you work and interact with others. Relationship building explores the importance of emotional intelligence, the importance of relationship building in the work environment, communication and in increasing influence as a leader.
Session #2: Communication, Role Modeling and Coaching
September 29, 2010, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
The three aspects of communication are reviewed as well as rules for message acceptability. Participants will understand barriers to effective communication and how to communicate effectively across an organizational structure.
Session #3: Ownership, Accountability, and Execution
October 4, 2010, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Participants will understand the “excuse/reality continuum” in taking ownership and accountability for work performance. Behaviors that support increased ownership and accountability are reviewed.
